Pondering the Paranormal
We’ve all heard the adage, “the truth is out there”, pertaining to UFO’s and aliens. In fact, most people also understand the statement’s implication that our government has been conspiring, for decades, to cover up evidence of the existence of such. Despite this, I tend to believe that the truth as noted, is indeed out there since (over the years) many people have described vivid and similar accounts of them from all parts of the world. Because I’ve opened my mind to this once thought of as ‘far-out’ possibility, I began to wonder about the nature of other paranormal accounts, and what truths lie behind them.
It is believed by millions, in fact, that there is life after death. Not only is this the basis for many religions, it is also the foundation of many haunted houses, cemeteries, ships and lighthouses around the world. It is believed by some that , after death, the soul will go to a favorite place that the person, when alive, loved. If this is the truth, then I would most likely go to the home of my childhood. Where do you think you would go?
When applying the concept of truth to psychics, I was left with a feeling of skepticism since for many ‘so-called-psychics’ there is a monetary incentive to lie. Suppose however, there are a few who actually represent the truth, then ask yourself what kinds of questions you would ask this person. Would you want to know when, or how you’ll die? Maybe you would ask if your spouse or significant other is cheating on you. Unfortunately though, it’s impossible to distinguish between true psychics and frauds, so when I question one I will keep an open mind, and compare what the psychic said, to what actually happens
This paranormal thinking brought me to also consider how I feel about the Bermuda Triangle and what the truth behind the stories may actually be. The mystery of the Bermuda Triangle has been discussed and investigated plenty enough times over the years, that the truth should be public knowledge by now. Sadly, the explanations we’ve been given are vague an incomplete. So, we are left to our imagination to explain what scientists and governments will not. What we have speculated is some rip in time and space exists within that triangle area, where planes and ships have entered, but never returned. Maybe the people of those crafts were transported to an Earth 1000 years from now, or maybe they went somewhere other than this physical three dimensional world. One thing is sure though, questions remain because the truth is not known.
I have wondered what the truth is regarding ‘The Missing Link”. Evidence of this being, the alleged transitional being between ape and man has not yet been found. Was Darwin correct? Did we humans evolve from apes? If so, where is the evidence? People have found dinosaur bones as well as fossils of many very old species of other animals dating back millions of years, but no fossils or bones linking man and ape. Is the truth, in this case, the creation as described in the Bible’s book of Genesis?
There is another phenomenon that has been the basis of a comic book character, TV show, and feature film. In the TV show, “The Incredible Hulk”, Doctor David Banner was looking for a way to tap into the hidden strengths that all people have. This strength seems to be available to us in times of extreme duress, and it has been reenacted on talk shows around the nation as truth, and specific first hand miraculous accounts of people lifting cars off of loved ones, have been told.
There is a paranormal ability called remote viewing that has been around for at least 50 years. The U.S. government actually employed people to experiment with this concept for possible spy applications. The theory contends that since everything in the universe is made of the same basic stuff, we are all connected on a deep, deep level, and it’s this connection that is exploited by People who remote view. They are said to have the ability to locate anyone or anything with no foreknowledge of the target location. They employ a pad and pencil to absently write/draw things that come into mind, while concentrating on the target. It’s also believed that everyone has this ability. To test the truth of this, get a pad, pencil and a friend. Tell your friend to go hide something, then start sketching/writing while concentrating on the object. When you are finished, compare your work with the object’s actual location.
One last paranormal topic I thought of is what’s known as astral Projection. It is believed that people have the ability (if they work at it) to disconnect their consciousness from their bodies at will. As strange as this sounds, many accounts of people being ‘disconnected’ in hospital rooms, having what’s known as near death experiences have made astral projection a little more believable as a paranormal truth. Even more impressive are accounts of people who describe themselves floating near the ceiling watching and listening to everyone, then repeating (to everyone’s amazement later) the things that were said, an who they were said by.
Isn’t life made much more interesting with all these mysteries? From Stone Henge, to the Pyramids of Egypt, questions have kept religious leaders, scholars, and regular people like you and I looking for answers and considering possibilities. Aren’t we lucky that we don’t have to live in a drab world where everything is known and no surprises remain? I think we should embrace our curiosity, we aren’t cats, look for answers, and try to remember the truth is out there for us to find, if we care to look.
