I realize it's been a while since I've posted anything like the stuff I wrote prior to March '06. Since beginning my employment at Melanie Massey Physical Therapy inc., it seems I don't have the time to really devote the kind of thought it takes to produce such articles.
What I've found, though, is that I really like what I'm doing. It's on my mind even when I'm off. I find, for example, I'm thinking, about this or that client and how I could have done something better or different during the past week, or how I could better do things in the future.
I'm beginning to consider how I could write poetry/lyrics to highlight the value and preciousness of the children I see. I've tried and tried to capture the essence of what I feel only to stare down at the lonely phrase in the center of my monitor reading, "Her soul is not wasted".
Often, I think soceity overlooks the value of special needs children/people which is too bad. I've discovered in my job that God doesn't make mistakes and if he loves special needs then I should too.
Personally, I think many special needs kids are the most precious of children, and how we look upon them and treat them is a direct reflection of our character as a soceity. I love the kids I work with. It's difficult not to get attatched to them and melt when they smile.
I'm not saying it's always easy, because it's not. Kids cry and scream, and some don't seem to want to mind. But when, because of me (in part), they reach and surpass a goal and suddenly I see, for instance, a young girl jump for the first time in her life, or take her first step, I really feel good.
Well, this little ditty I wrote here isn't intended to be an organized well though out article. This is just an imprompt/informal dialog strait from my head to the keyboard.
Yes, I like what I'm doing and the people I'm doing it with. The clinic at MMPT has an intangable quality that cant be fully described . It's got spirit, and the therapists there have a genuine affection and are genuinly interested in improving the lives of the needy.
I could go on and on but I'll stop here since my wife is going to get out of the tub in a minute and we'll have to go to bed.
Take care,
Daniel Taverne
