IMOT: Intensive Model of Therapy at Melanie Massey Physical Therapy

We at Melanie Massey Physical Therapy (MMPT) Inc would like to introduce you to an exciting physical therapy resource known as the Intensive Model of Therapy, or IMOT.

IMOT is exciting because of its nontraditional timeframe of therapy, and its unique tools. You see, most traditional therapies take place 2 or 3 days per week, and last only 45 minutes per day. Our IMOT schedules therapy in a 3 week block that last 4 hours each day for the entire duration. It is because of these differences, coupled with the following specialized tools, techniques and professions that our IMOT clients enjoy much more noticeable positive physical changes than from traditional therapy experiences

Our IMOT clients benefit from the following list of highly specialized and effective- tools, techniques and professions.

1. Cage Systems: Very effective tool used to improve on a vast variety of biomechanical limitations such as strength, flexibility, stability and balance.

2. NeuroSuits: Highly specialized modified clothing designed to provide constant joint input (proprioception). The Therapist can individualize any suit to address particular needs as well as total body strengthening through the use of rubber chords anchored at various points on the body. (interesting note) MMPT made history being the first PT clinic in the world to utilize this suit technology on adult stroke patients)

3. Hippotherapy: utilizing horses as tools provides a wide range of valuable exercises for our clients. riding horses simulates normal walking movements in the clients, providing targeted proprioception to the hip joints which is very difficult to do any other way with clients who can’t walk.

4. Cutting edge techniques such as Myofascial release, and total motion release,

5. Swing Room: Utilized to provide children with vestibular input; enhancing their body awareness in space. Swing technology is also used to promote core body strengthening as well as a variety of other purposes.

6. Interdisciplinary cooperation with Occupational Therapy and Speech Language Pathologists located in the same clinical setting will address functional limitations with respect to living and communication skills.

As awesome as all of these tools and services are, without the right people wielding them, their effectiveness could, and would probably be, less than optimum. That said, our spirited, energetic and knowledgeable staff genuinely strives to effect positive changes in the clients we see.

Furthermore, following IMOT sessions, it has been said by various clients (and parents of our pediatric clients) that our people are “expert motivators”.
