I love spring. I always seem to get a boost of energy, a boost that propels me to raking, scooping, and hauling leaves and other refuse from my yard to the dump. I always enjoy getting my yard up to snuff each year, and when I’m done I find myself eager to do more.
Well, if you’re like me and like tackling projects that make your yard look a little nicer, maybe you’ll consider building your own bird feeders. Sure, you could buy some like most people do, but you could get more satisfaction from creating and displaying one or more that you built yourself.
Here is a simple design of bird feeder I assembled and hang in my yard right now.
Materials for 1 Feeder:
**One eight foot long treated 1”X6” Decking board.
**8 wood screws
**1 small box of small finishing nails
**A piece of scrap paneling that 1 inch strips can be cut from.
**A drill with a ¼ inch wood bit
**Some bailing wire
*****DIRECTIONS*****:
Cut four 1 foot long sections from the board. (You will have 4 feet left over for another feeder!
Screw the boards to each other creating a square shape.
Decide which surface is top/bottom then use the finishing nails to attach 1 inch strips (one on each side of the bottom) that will serve to hold bird seed in place.
Next, drill two holes in the top, roughly centered then poke a length of wire down into each hole; twisting the ends together on the underside of the feeders top. This wire should create a hanging loop.

This feeder works great! Any questions you have can be answered if you ask it in a reply to this post.

I love working in the yard.
