I'm not exactly sure what this sustainable development holds for us as citizens. I do know that it behoves us to watch our government officials closley and redress any disagreements we may have with them. Our Government officials are supposed to represent us. If they aren't representing us we have to exercise our voting power and remove him/her.
Any way I did a small bit of research. This is what I've found:
Tahoe Center for a Sustainable Future. breaks down the jist of sustainable development on a web page that, taken at face value sounds so rational, however think about how the government might change, our "consumption patterns" population patterns, and restore ecosystems that are currently private farmlands. Do you think "conspiracy theorists" are imistaken when they speak, fearing what our future may hold?
Read the full page I refered to above at, http://ceres.ca.gov/tcsf/sd_council.html and then think about it a while. Render your own opinion.
My Question is: Can our constitution, and our bill of rights be protected in a sustainable development world? I think the word, Liberty in the phrase: Life, liberty and the persuit of happiness" will be a thing of the past. We'll live in a world where we will be told where we can and can't go, as well as how and when we can go.
When I was in the army at Ft. Polk, LA, we often encountered trees with white rings painted around them. Those trees contained the nests of a endangered woodpecker. We were not allowed within 50 feet of those marked trees.
Would the government, or those that are behind the government "could" use environment as an excuse to control us?
