I'm so happy with what I discovered:
A few of my ham radio friends were recently discussing the carrying of firearms in motorvehicles. One guy said the requirement is that weapon and ammunition are supposed to be stored in the vehicle separately. This statement didn’t jive with my understanding of Louisiana law.
I decided to call the Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s office (OPSO) in Monroe, Louisiana for their expertise.
After being transferred to a Sgt. who didn’t pick up, I was asked to leave my first “and last” names, so said sgt could call me back.
After hanging up, I nervously began wondering how long it would be before a swarm of deputies knocked down my door.
After waiting several minutes and not receiving the call, I had another idea. I decided to call the State Police to ask them. Greatfully, I asked the guy about Louisiana laws concerning weapon carrying in motor vehicles.
This is what I was told by a Sgt with Troop F in Monroe, Louisiana:
“For all intensive purposes, your vehicle is an extension of your home.” He continued, “You can have your car packed full of loaded firearms as long as they don’t interfere with your sight or hinder the safe operation of your vehicle.” He also stated, “Your handgun can even be concealed in the vehicle. Once you exit the vehicle, however, the weapon can’t be concealed on your person unless you have a concealed carry permit.

I asked him if I could quote him on that. He asked me not to use his name; to say only that he’s a Sgt at Troop F LSP.
Whatever your name is, Sgt, thanks for the information.
As of the completion of this post, the OPSO still hasn’t called me back.
