Woman Takes Aim at Plastic Army

I was at the Veteran’s hospital in Jackson, Mississippi waiting for an appointment when an episode of “Trading Spouses” came on the waiting room TV.

In this episode, a progressive big city woman took a trip to Tennessee and stayed with a southern country dad and his kids. Of all the opinions this woman had of the southern family, one stood out in my mind more than all the others. Let me explain.

The dad spent time playing with his young son. They sat on the boy’s bedroom floor battling with little green plastic army men. To make a short story even shorter, the city-woman was appalled that the dad was allowing his son to play with them.

The big city girl voiced her opinion by saying the boy is growing up thinking it is okay to “shoot bad guys” that he’ll be one of those kids who shoots his classmates someday. While listening to her irrational opinions, I got the impression that she was anti-gun and thereby anti-second amendment.

Let me tell you, I was taken aback! I played with little green army men when I was a kid, and I grew up to volunteer for this man’s Army. I Was there to defend that woman’s right to say those idiotic things she was saying, and, I didn’t grow up to become a murderer.

Regardless of what we hear coming at us from “the media”, we, as a nation, can’t allow ideals surrounding the 2nd amendment to become stigmatized. CMT, however intended, showed Southern hicks abiding with the idea of firearms while the city girl didn’t. They showed one family behind the times, and one progressive woman ‘with it’. However subtle, this seems propaganda-like to me.

According to the Second amendment of our constitution, our right to keep and bear arms is not to be infringed! Though there are inherent responsibilities that come with them, firearms are a way for ‘we the people’ to defend ourselves from any source of tyranny, foreign or domestic.

That said, our privately owned firearms are truly our last line of defense. Hopefully we will never have to use them. Let me repeat a quote I’ve heard concerning firearms: “It’s better to have them and not need them, then need them and not have them.
