ALERT: PROPOSED CHANGES TO VETERAN HEALTH APPOINTMENT MAKING SYSTEM

This post appeared on THIS MESSAGE BOARD, and I wanted to share it.

Are you all aware that the VA is about to inflict even more red tape onto we veterans? As things stand now we go to our appointments, and then efficiently and conveniently make our next appointment(s) with a human being at the reception desk at our VA facility.

That is about to change/ and be automated. Unless numbers of veterans voice opposition to the announced impending new appointment plan, "Open Access Scheduling RECALL" we veterans are all in for major inconveniences, more than usual miscommunications and a wait for a letter then YOU make a telephone call for an appointment yourself scheduling plan.

Please telephone, write, e-mail, in person request that no change in the way we veterans make our appointments be made. Keep things the way they are for veterans, because it works just fine as it is.

Making an appointment with a human is the way to go rather than being sent letters and then having to go through a maze of "press 1, press 2, etc. in order to make an appointment through a call center located who knows where.

And what is to become of the men and women who currently have jobs at VA appointment desks, are most of their jobs going to get phased out?

Quote from the linked site:  "Open Access Scheduling is a patient-friendly system that will allow you to schedule an appointment with your provider in a timely manner. Our goal is to schedule you within five days of your appointment request, at a time that is both convenient for you and your provider.
Currently, your next appointment is scheduled at the time of your current visit. In some instances, that will still occur, however in most instances you will gain more control over scheduling your care. "
