Radio: AN/GRC-106 (Army/Navy) In Amateur Use (Video)

This is the exact radio I used in my ARMY RATT rig (at Ft. Polk) from 85 to 89. The Transmitter/Amp is the unit on top and it's connected to the reciever via what we called a "dog bone".

The frequency was set at the reciever. You'll see the dude change freq's. The freq range was from 2.9999 to 29.999 and had 5 knobs to tune with.

The whirring sound heard when he turns the radio on in video 1 is the Amplifier's fan running. That transmitter/Amp weighs 74lbs. Our army unit had a large sticker on it reading, "2 Man lift". The reciever weighed 42 lbs. If I remember correctly there is also an I.F. cable between the top and bottom units.

In video 1, you'll see the guy turning some knobs on the transmitter. He's tuning his transmitter to the frequency. The 2 guages on the needles in the meters on the left and right will deflect. Then the guy will turn the knobs against the deflection directions attempting to center the needles strait up. When this is accomplished the guage in the center meter will point strait up also. Then the guy swiches the transmitter from "Tune" to "operate".
