Does the Death of Captain America Predict the Death of the American Way?

By Daniel Taverne

The current issue of Marvel comic’s, Captain America depicts the protagonist, Captain America being shot dead by a sniper while leaving a courthouse, The Daily News reported earlier today.

The first time I saw the headline, “Comic Book Hero Captain America Dies”, I automatically pondered the social/political implications behind such a historic comic book event. So I called Marvel Industries for more information.

Jim McCann, Marvel Industries assistant manager of sales communication informed me that the editor wants people to make their own inferences about the event’s implications. According to McCann the idea for Captain Marvel’s death was successfully pitched to marvel editors by Ed Brubaker, a full time Marvel writer some time ago.

That said, if not for Brubaker, any political/social implications made by Marvel editors would have gone on unexpressed. So, does Captain America’s death predict the death of the American way? Isn’t the American way considered to be our freedom, our liberty and our right to pursue happiness? If it is, today, I think 85% of our liberties are already tampered with, or gone.

When tax codes, in my opinion, amount to nothing more than government sponsored extortion, when illegal aliens are supported by public funds, when our federal immigration laws are not enforced, when so many jobs are handed over to Mexico and else ware, when unfair federal laws threaten to put American truckers out of business, when we have to look truth in the eye and pretend we don’t see it for fear of being politically incorrect, when pharmaceutical companies practically own our federal government, and our federal government makes a law saying, “Only Drugs can cure illnesses”, the American way does indeed have one foot in the grave!

These days, the American way should be called the American ‘turn’ away. The turn away from all that we hold dear by a government that is bought and paid for by special interests and by pandering to a ignorant voting public.

In many ways I’m not surprised that Captain America died, but after thinking about this for a while, I’m surprised he didn’t already commit suicide.
